Gavin and Emery have waved "bye-bye" to people for a long time, but just recently Emery started to wave "hi". It's different than the floppy handed baby wave. It's more of an adult wave and she uses it to greet various people. Every day, we watch the school bus drop the next door neighbor and his friends off. Emery waves at the bus and then waves at the kids as they walk from the bus to their house. These are teenage kids, mostly boys, who have no interest in returning the wave or paying any attention to crazy toddlers.......or maybe we just make them nervous. Gavin and Emery also stand right next to their driveway, pointing and signing "ball", everytime the boy comes out to play basketball. He usually goes back inside quickly and probably waits until the coast is clear. Today, someone came to pick up one of the teenagers from the neighbors house and I was able to catch some of the waving on video. I feel so bad for Emery because she doesn't understand why people aren't waving back at her. I want to yell at the neighbor "Could you please just wave at my kid????"
In the first video, you can see Emery trying to say "hi", but you can't really hear it. I added the second video, so that you can hear the different interpretations of "hi". Listen closely for Gavin's pronunciation (sort of like a panting dog). It cracks me up.
On an unrelated note: We just finished watching the Season Finale of The Bachelor. Pete laughed everytime they showed Jason (the bachelor) crying and said "What is his son going to think of him when he watches this?". I think we might need some sensitivity training around here. :-)

How could someone not wave at that sweet little girl waving at them?
I'm open about it - if my kids wave, I smile and wave too. But I live in a town where people talk to strangers all the time.
Oh cute, how can they ignore that cutie waving?
Maybe they don't wave back because you are the crazy mom neighbor playing rap music on the porch. Their parents instructed them to stay away from the new neighbors. Just kidding...I can't wait to see those kids next week. We will certainly wave at them :)
My heart is broken! I'm comin' over there and wavin' at those people!! Then they will remember the little kids with the nutzo grandfather.
