HOT

It is SO hot outside. Of course, everyone in the south already knows that, but I just thought I’d reiterate it. One of the forecasts for tomorrow says “108, blazing sun”. That is a good description since it literally feels like the skin is melting off your body. The heat index is listed at 110.

I grew up in Texas, so I’m used to August heat, but it’s a whole new ballgame with three small kids. So, yesterday we loaded up in the car, stopped at Sonic for a limeade and apple juice slushes (during 1/2 price happy hour of course), and went for a drive. I drove through all of the local subdivisions scoping out the community swimming pools. I found an awesome pool just a few minutes away with a kiddie pool and a splash pad. Of course, we’re not allowed to use this pool since we don’t live in the subdivision and pay homeowner association fees. So, I figure I have a few options:

1. Sneak in.

2. Make friends with someone in the neighborhood. I'm not sure how to make this happen. I’m sure I would meet some people after sneaking in, but that would just be awkward.

3. Call the homeowner association and ask if we can use the pool if I pay them a portion of the yearly association fee. The economy’s still not great, so I figure people are defaulting on their fees and they just might need the money! Or maybe not, judging by how nice the pool is.

This is my 2011 plan. I figure it’s too late in the 2010 season to pull this off. I think the heat is making me insane.

It might not be too late for this year! Our pool does pro-rated fees if you join midway through summer. Or you can buy guest passes. It never hurts to ask!
