Red River- Part 2

Get ready for lots and lots and lots of pictures.......

When we left the Red River Fish Hatchery (see last post), we took the scenic route back and stopped at a park that I used to play at when I was a kid. There is an old mine at this park. We used to walk right into it and check things out with flashlights (smart, huh?). Now, it's got steel bars across the entrance and the path to the mine is eroded so that you have to scale a wall to get up to it. Emery saw Pete making the climb and immediately said "up, up, up", as she started making her way up the rocks..........
She has no fear. For most of the climb, Pete was just spotting her.......she was really doing the climbing!
After rock climbing, the kids did some exploring........And checked out the passing 4Wheelers........
As I mentioned in the last post, Gavin and Emery were becoming more and more interested in finding BIG rocks. Here was Gavin's greatest find..........The kid's got some muscles!Emery was at the creek with Grandma, sticking to the smaller rocks.........
The next day, we decided to take a trek to Greenie Peak, at the top of one of the mountains. It was a 2 hour drive up a Jeep road, in 4 wheel drive. Gavin and Emery (especially Gavin) weren't too fond of the wind and cold at the top, but at least a nice lady offered to take a family picture!
We continued over the mountain and stopped at a less windy spot on the way down, overlooking some meadows. We threw sticks, spotted chipmunks, and ran off some steam. It was a much bigger hit than Greenie Peak.

We headed back to the cabin, eating apples to pass the time. We found out that apples were a great way to keep Emery occupied during all of the driving that we did on vacation. However, while she was eating the first apple, Pete and I kept feeling something hit us in the back of the head. She would chew up the apple, pull the skin out of her mouth and throw it at us! Gross! By the end of the trip, she was getting good at gathering the apple skin in one spot instead of pelting us with it. Yes, our car was disgusting by the time we got home!

Gavin lost his apple priviledges after we had to slam on the brakes, jump out, and pull a wad of apple out of his mouth! We're still working on small bites and chewing before you swallow. :-)

One more Red River post to come!
