Since Pete has had some "time off" of work, we decided to take advantage of it and head for the mountains. I was happy that Pete agreed to go to Red River because this is where I went for vacation almost every year when I was little AND my grandparents took my mom and her sisters (my aunts) there many times when she was growing up. Many, many years of visiting Red River! We even stayed at the same place that I did as a kid. The cabins were probably built in the 1930's or 40's. There is a playground in the middle of all of the cabins and a pond that is stocked weekly with trout. The river runs through town and right behind the cabins. So.......needless to say, there was PLENTY to keep the kids busy! They were worn out! Here is a little taste of what we did for fun (I'll start with the first few days and continue on a different post)...........
Gavin checking out the river......
Their favorite thing to do was throwing rocks into the river. We did this for hours!
Checking out the ducks in the pond........
Our cabin faced Main Street, so we spent a lot of time on the front porch watching for motorcycles, Jeeps, etc..... The kids LOVED it (especially Gavin). The kids were inside taking a nap in this picture, so it's just Pete enjoying the porch......
The second day we were there, we drove over the mountain and stopped at a roadside campsite so that Gavin and Emery could throw more rocks. By this time, they were realizing that the BIG rocks were a lot more fun, so they spent some time picking out the best ones........
The next day, we entered a boat building contest at the Red River Community Center. Pete built the boat while Gavin and Emery supervised.......
No, this wasn't washable paint! Emery had paint on her shoes, I had paint on my jeans, and Gavin had paint EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!! His hands were red and blue for a couple of days.......
After the paint dryed, we carried our boat across the street to the river.........
The boats were set free to race down to the bridge that you see in the background. No, we didn't win. We're trying to teach the kids that "winning isn't everything". :-)

How awesome. I am so excited for our vacation. I feel like the kids can actually enjoy things now instead of being in the stroller all the time.
