Hostile Work Environment

My bosses aren't treating me fairly. They refuse to sleep (nap). They're cranky, whiny, and downright hostile.

As you may know, we've been trying (with no success) to transition to one nap for many, many months. I'll try for 3 or 4 days, then give up and wait another month before trying again. Finally, I decided that they'll let me know when they're ready for one nap (ie: They'll stop sleeping well at both naps.). Well, last week the time came. Emery (and sometimes Gavin) refused to take an afternoon nap. So, I knew it was time to phase out the morning nap.

Now it's just a disaster.

They used to sleep about an hour during each nap, so about 2 hours a day, sometimes even a little longer. Now, they are sleeping about an hour total......And this is definitely NOT enough sleep! Gavin is cutting a molar, so this might (hopefully) be playing a part in it.

Any suggestions from those of you who have been through this before? They were taking a morning nap from 10-11 and afternoon nap from 2-3. Now it's 12:30 to 1:30.....and of course we are attempting this when it is raining every day and the swine flu is surrounding us! So, I'm running out of ideas to wear them out in the mornings!

Actually, they've been in great moods lately, but I can see this going quickly downhill the less sleep they get. Today was a prime example of just how quickly things can change!

SIDE NOTE: Don't make fun of me for being scared of the swine flu. They are shutting down school districts right and left around here!

Preston and Lily had the same nap schedule as Emery and Gavin. When we switched to 1 nap I would put them down at 12:30 and they would babble for about 30 mins before falling asleep. They would then only sleep about an hour. My friend suggested I feed them lunch at 11:30 put them down closer to 12. It worked they will usually sleep 2.5 to 3 hours now. When we switched to one nap I would put Preston down in the guest room in the pack and play and Lily in her bed. That really seemed to help since they weren't in the same room. We only did that for a few months until they really got the one nap down. Now they are back in the same room for naps.

See Goddess's post on this - she just went through it and I think she still put the kids down for a while in their cribs in the AM to "rest". We do that with their 3rd nap which they sometimes take and sometimes don't. Yes, my kids are 8 months old and still take 3 naps. Oh, well.

I have to agree with the earlier nap. When day care transitioned my boys, they went to an 11:30 - 1:30 nap. 12:30 sounds too late to me. N&A weren't ready to go to 12:30 until they were in the 2s room.

We still had a couple of months of crankies as they transitioned though. But the good news is that is the LAST nap transition until no nap!
